What to expect
Guided by Mjid, an experienced Gnaoua instrument maker, you will buy materials in local markets and make your own wooden Guembri (Moroccan Gnaoua instrument) in his home in the heart of the Medina of Essaouira. Learn the steps of making from start to finish, Mjid's traditional know-how and his anecdotes about the local culture.
For a Simple Guembri:
3 to 4 days of practical workshop for the making (be careful, count 7 days in total with drying times for the Guembri to be completely finished).
6 hours / day approximately (it depends on each participant), material included
For an Electric Guembri (to be connected to an amplifier):
6 to 7 days of practical workshop for the making (be careful, count 2 weeks in total for the Guembri to be completely finished)
